In case anyone else is searching. Hugh and Mary are listed in the 1871 census with their son Charles and his family at 67 Chatham Street RG10 /3712 F 130 p13. Hugh is 84.

Can't find Hugh MacDonald in the GRO deaths index. What happened to him?

It looks as though he was still alive in July 1875 (press announcement re the death of his son Hugh) when he would have been 88.
