I am researching the GROVES family from the Littlebredy area.
In 1857 Sarah GROVES born Littlebredy Dorset ca 1836 married George MORRISH born ca 1829 in Rockbeare [GRO ref 1857 Tiverton Q1 5 b 661]; by 1861 they had moved to Handsworth Staffs where they had a daughter Alice in 1876.
On the 1841 census Littlebredy Dorset: Sarah GROVES aged 6 born ca 1835 d/o George aged 36 born ca 1805 & Jane aged 35 born ca 1806 [all born in county]; siblings are James 13 born ca 1827, George aged 12 born ca 1828, Charles aged 5 born ca 1835, Benjamin aged 1 born ca 1840, Mary aged 15 born ca 1825 & Anne aged 8 born ca 1832.
familyhistoryonline has a Jane COURTNEY marrying George GROVES in Portisham on 5 Jan 1825 with witnesses John Hain, William Sanson. IGI has a Jane Courtenay baptised 25 APR 1801 Portisham, Dorset, England parents John & Elizabeth plus another Jane Courtenay born ca 1804 [age in 1841 census is 35 so could be 30 - 40 so born 1801 - 1811] - no batch numbers for these baptisms. Then IGI has a John Courtney born ca 1776 Portesham marrying Elizabeth Sandford 26 May 1801.
Any information on the Dorset GROVES family gratefully received. Also any information that could help confirm that the George GROVES/Jane COURTENAY marriage of 1825 is the one of the parents of George GROVES born ca 1829. Many thanks.
Josey

Many thanks, alli. That's very useful.
Would you recommend in general getting the BIVRI CDs? It appears there is more information than on familysearch.org.

HI, I was intersted to hear about Sarah Groves. I am trying to research my Gran's family. Her father was Isaac Groves who was born in Little Bredy 1866. His father was George Groves brother of Sarah and was born in Portesham. They lived at Foxholes in Little bredy and White Hill Lodge. Isaac worked for the Williams family at Bridehead. Hea was a coachman. He married Kate Nobes in 1897 and they were living in Osmington where they had 3 children one being my Gran. He was still a coachman working for the Williams family. However his wife Kate died of TB in 1904 less than a year after my Gran was born. Isaac married again in 1907 to Susanna Howe who was a cook. They then lived in Charminster still working for the Williams family. I don't know if you have any information on this. It is really intersting as I live close to Little Bredy. allanpathart
