Fowey local history question

Could anyone tell me how New Hill Road down into the town is so named. It is looks like a relatively recent cutting. Was there an earlier route down to Lostwithiel Street? Also, can anyone recommend any books relating to the old roads of Cornwall, such as the old western post road which passed through polperro and Bodinnick? Many thanks Toz

I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you. However I may be able to point you in the right direction.

I had a similar question about a road in Portsmouth, so contacted the museum & they in turn put me onto the council. In this case it would be Restormal Borough council I think. Or contact the OPC http://www.cornwall-opc.org/Par_new/e_g/fowey.php

It's a start
