As the IGI covers both those parishes and you have obviously looked at the original registers can we assume you have looked at the other children born to George and Mary?   There is also a son of Robert Wylie and Mary Harrison baptsied 1792 in Brough which seems odd.  May be a mistranscription of course.
I know that area well.   There are no entries in my index of Historical Directories for Wylie in either Appleby or Kirkby Stephen for that time - or indeed any entries at all!

yes we have other childrens info.
The Robert Wylie you mention is a transcription error.

I can only assume that they died in another area before 1837 as I  cannot find them on1841 census or that they left the area completely. So I thought of the next parish ie K. Stepen but you have ruled that out.

Another puzzle though is that a Maria Wyllie was a witness to a wedding at St Michaels in 1832 and again we can find no trace of her.She was not a child, so maybe she is a wife of one of the above.

Thanks for info we will look again in other parishes on our next visit to Kendal

I only ruled out an entry in the directory.  If they were ag labs or similar they would not be in any directory but may still appear in the parish records.     KS is on the IGI though.  Lucky that you are able to visit Kendal.
