Hi, am seeking info reference my family name Balnave, my father William Cochrane Balnave lived in the above areas, born 1924, had a brother Peter and an older sister Anna and Betty who was younger. My grandfather was William Henderson Balnave married to Janet Edmiston Cochrane, they both died in the early 1970's, there is a connection to the USA. Any help appreciated, I have been in touch with many people but could use further help, regards Peter Balnave Bolton upon Dearne Rotherham.

Are you looking for the history of the surname only - or are you looking for info re: your ancestry

The 1901 Scottish census has 52 entries for the surname Balnave and the majority are in Paisley

I think this is your grandparents William & Janet in 1901 - probably recently married as no children

52 Canal St Paisley

William Balnave 22 grocer b Paisley
Janet 21 b Paisley
Paisley; ED: 22; Line: 10

And here he is with your great grandparents in 1881

Carole, thanks for the prompt reply, I actually have traced the ancestors back to 1776, I was hoping to get a better connection to the American side of the family, I have contacts in the USA, from my grandfathers side, unfortunately the names you have given are not my grandparents but my great great grandparents, it is the children in this line that I am trying to trace, Peter is my great grandfather, it is his siblings that I am struggling with, regards Peter.
