Michael - Very many thanks.  The fiche arrived this morning.  I am going to have fun with those as I have Hamsterley ancestors too.
Margaret - I can confirm the marriage in 1837 but as it is an index it does not give further details so that does mean looking at the original register to see witnesses etc..

Yes that might be a possible.
We were members many years ago but we let it lapse. Back then we didn't get much out of being in the group & we lived in our native Yorkshire, so Carlisle wasn't as far away. I'll try some other forums too.

Message to Walkerlad: Hope this reaches you! I'm new to rootschat and can't work out how to message individuals. Hopefully you are the same walkerlad who is connected with the Sarah Corlett murder (Robert Gill committed suicide shortly after the girl's death in 1928 and was 'blamed/scapegoated' for her murder.
