Sandy Hill Cemetery Gelliswick Pembs Completed
« on: Wednesday 06 January 10 11:18 UTC (UK) »

Could some local or knowledgeable person in the Hubberston/Hakin area please supply me with directions from the A4076(T) to Sandy Hill Cemetery Gelliswick that was in use in September of 1918, or is this the old name of Thornton Cemetery?

An odd combination of place names  Undecided

Sandy Hill is a Baptist chapel on the road to Dale from Milford Haven - It does have its own small burial ground

Gelliswick is part of Fishguard in the North of Pembrokeshire

Thornton is part of Milford Haven and does indeed have the cemetery for Milford Haven

So the question is which place do you mean?  Smiley

I live in Pembroke Town, and was searching for Sandy Hill Cemetery in the known area of Gelliswick, Gelliswick Rd off Dale Rd at Hubberston.
You (like so many, so no problem) others have jumped to the wrong conclusion, having convinced themselves I was talking about Fishguard.
To ident follow Gelliswick Rd on to South Hook Rd and just north is the Roman Villa and to the West lies Gelliswick. It is quite possible that what was the cemetery lies under the Terminal.
I have already researched the Baptist Chapel in my ongoing military headstones of Pembrokeshire which holds some 2,500 items covering the period 1722 to 2006.

There's me living in Millord Haven and forgot about Gelliswick Road Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

Saw Sandy Hill and, as you say, jumped to conclusions.  Have looked on a 1950's (pre oil age) map I have of the area and there is no cemetery marked but as you say if there was one it is probably under the terminal

Further wide ranging off forum and computer research appears to confirm that Sandy Hill Cemetery does not and did not exist. Your input clearly places a full stop on any further point in researching this Cemetery.
Which just goes to prove no matter how reliable information appears to be that was printed and published at the time of the event, it may still be misleading(wrong).
Could it be that since I never expected to find the evidence on the ground at the Chapel I did not see what was in front of me (not for the 1st time). A return to Sandy Hill Chapel is in order.
