Canal Boatmen and Women
« on: Thursday 04 September 08 20:38 UTC (UK) »

Hi all hoping to find any people with canal boatmen or women in their trees, mine come from the harrison line, in tipton but being boatmen they travelled all over so have a lot elsewhere too, if anyone has any let me know

thanks kerry

For reasons and circumstances that have happened today i would like to add that the contents and photo's on my webite are from family members, the information is from numerous family members and years of searching with help also from family members and numerous geneaology sites including rootschat without them i would never have found the family members who have helped me, the cover of my website is my husbands grandmother emily harrison wife of jack/john harrison.
If your family do appear on the website and you are not happy with it being there please let me know and i will delete it

thank you all kerry

Hi Kerry,
You might find this thread interesting:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,319181.0.html
Although Greg's ancestor was not from Staffs he moved many Tipton/Bilston/Staffs people up from there to Derbyshire (including mine Wink).
Hope you get some more responses - good luck.

Hi Ann,
Welcome to rootschat - I hope you find it interesting, and helpful. Smiley
I'm curious to know what your ancestors (and Kerry's) went on to do later - I know the Bonser family, on the Erewash Canal at Ilkeston, moved on to doing pleasure trips in the 1920s. (see thread on post).

I recently visited St.John's Chruch, Kate's Hill, Dudley, to find the grave of my ancestor - William Perry, also known as the Tipton Slasher, is buried there.

Hi Kerry

I have a John Fradley b:1858 don't know who he married but I have come across the Harison Family in previous searches.
John Fradleys siblings I have are Benjamin, Joshua, Elizabeth, Sarah, Thomas, Mary, William, Rachel, Ann, Rebecca and Charles.
My husbands tree has the boatmen in it.

Elizabeth Moore married Joshua Fradley after the death of his brother Samuel Fradley and had four children.

I am away on holiday at the moment and all the information I have is at home, I will have a look when I get home for any Harrison informaton I might had written down, have plenty of names of boatmen that I have come across whilst doing my research, never know when you might need them.

Hi, I have the Bromage family of boatmen appearing in my tree - they seem to have been on the Oxford to Coventry canal.  They were William Bromage and his wife Sarah - I have them on several census entries from Market Bosworth, Rugby and one address says California Oxford Canal.  All very interesting.
