Hi kas,

There is a death registration on http://www.freebmd.rootsweb.com

Mary Ann Aiano   Mar 1881   W.Ham  4a  72      age given as  51

Could this be Edward's wife?

A copy of son Edward's birth certificate will confirm her name:

Edward George Aiano     Mar 1868   W. Ham   4a  83  (found on FreeBMD)

By 1881 Emma is a servant afor a shipowner at 52 Princes Gate London.  I was suprised at the number of family members showing up - they must all be connected somehow!

yes it is unusual that so many of the wifes siblings are living with them. but they are all very young. maybe her parents had died and there was no one else to look after them. but at least we know who she is now. thanks for that.

You are assuming that the Leonard sisters are related to Mary A Aiano?    Seems odd that one of them is also called Mary A in that case.    They are also much younger.  I think there is more to this than meets the eye.    We still need to trace the marriage.

The only Edward AIANO marriage on FreeBMD is in Dec qtr 1846, Clerkenwell, 3 62. There are two possibilities for the bride if that is the right one - Mary Ann CONNOR/CONNER or Mary Ann STYLE. One of the childrens birth certs will confirm which one.

1851 - Indexed as AINO
8 Lower Cornwall St, St Georges in the East
Edward AINO, head mar 26, Tailor (Journeyman), born Kent, Canterbury
Mary Ann AINO, wife mar 22, born Mddx, Holborn
next page
John AINO, son 4, Scholar, born Mddx, Clerkenwell
Caroline M AINO, dau 1, born Kent, Canterbury
HO107/1548/109/3

1861 - Indexed as AIM but looks like AINO to me
3 Crawford ??, Poplar
Edward AINO, head mar 36, Tailor, born Canterbury
Mary Ann AINO, wife mar 30, born Highbury, London
John AINO, son unm 14, born Clerkenwell
Caroline AINO, dau unm 12, born Canterbury
RG9/309/149/38

Looking at the 1871 image I think the LEONARDs are visitors not sisters.

Can't see John or Caroline in 1871 though. There is another Caroline about the same age, but she is George's daughter. Found them, see following.

John is around in 1881, 1891 and 1901. He is a tailor, in Leyton, Essex. Married to an Eliza, with lots of kids. His sister Caroline shows up unmarried with him in 1901. Can post this if you want.

EDITED

I think this is John in 1871. Ages and birthplaces are consistent with 81, 91 and 01, plus first child was born Buckhurst Hill.

1871
Queens Rd, Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell
House of Edwin GAY, Baker
John HIGHAM, Boarder mar 24, Tailor, born Mddx, Clerkenwell
Eliza HIGHAM, Boarder mar 27, Dressmaker, born Essex, Chigwell
RG10/1639/16/23

John AIANO married Eliza GREEN, Dec qtr 1870, West Ham, 4a 96. There are no John HIGHAM marriages to an Eliza around this time.

woow
thanks for all these facts guys

John is a very common name in the aianos (every family seems to have one somewhere) and so is Charles (ive got 6 of those) but i dont think there are very many Edwards. so i need to look very carefully at all these facts to make sure that every one fits where they should. incidently Caroline seems to be quite common for them too. and i cant tell you how many Mary anns there are
Smiley
i think its amazing that all this came from one person.
whod have thought it would get so complicated.

another thing id like to add.

ive lost count now of how many times this surname has been mistpelt.
its really impossible. id like to thank all you guys and gals for helping me
i only get a couple of hours on the computer in the morning so it would have been really hard for me the fact that you have to second guess what on earth they could have used as spellings this time each time. its ridiculous

thanks everyone. i must be nearly done with this family now.

next step the bodymeads. now i wonder how many times you can mispell that.,

Ha Ha

Thanks for spotting the "visitors" Ian.  I must have done that one too quickly.  Mea culpa!

Hello Kas,

Well I can't help with the person but I can help witha little topography, you thought Bromley was in Kent ? yep, there is a Bromley in Kent, There is also a Bromley by Bow ( complete with Underground station ) in East London, tje Bow is a bit of a giveaway, there is also a Great Bromley  up towards Harwich, and right next to it is, wait for it, Little Bromley.
I think when researching family history, next to accurate names comes accurate dates, and then accurate place names........as I've learnt to my cost, going down blind alleys.

anyway,
Good hunting, and fortunately you're not looking for a common name like Smith, Green or Brown.

regards,

Bob Lovett
