Yesterday I looked for Louisa Lewis in Portsea baptisms and there are quite a few.

As he was 49 when he wed I wonder if Louisa had been his first wife/partner, altho I can find no marriage to substantiate that or baptisms of children to a Peter and Louisa.

He wasnt very good with names was he Huh??

NO, he certainly wasn't. Added to that, he decided to be Peter HENRY Rowe for the births of his first 6 or 7 children before reverting to Peter HARVEY Rowe for the subsequent 4 or 5. At first I had thought they were two different men, but after contacting descendants of both branches, and looking at his very hard to read death record, they are all born to the one man!!   Now why would he do that?!?

Your idea of Louisa being before Loveday has merit, though he married Loveday in Feb 1808 and baptised their first child Ann in JUly 1808. Other children are  1810 (Richard). 1814 or 16 (Peter) and William in 1823 (big gap!)  Was he off having an affair  for a few years? Was this whY Aussie Peter decided not to be known by the same name as his father/ All speculation of course.

I have just made contact with a relative who has hundreds of letters from England to Peter and his wife Elizabeth. So far I have been given only two, one of which is from Elizabeth's father, threatening Peter with the magistrate if he continues to treat his wife so ill. Wonder if he was a drunkard, womaniser or abuser......

Forgive my ramblings. It's kind of you to take an interest in a family which has nothing to do with you. You meet such nice people when you study genealogy!!!
THank you,
Marie

No I didnt mean Louisa was a wife to peter the elder before Loveday but a wife/partner/concubine to peter the younger before he went to Australia.

How exciting to have letters.

Yes I have found it too now.

If Peter in Aus spent half his life inebriated I am not surprised that he got so much of his info wrong. I am surprised that he was able to father so many children.

Just for interest sake can you give me details of his marriage and who his children were
