Hi Jan, Sorry I didn't realise you'd already looked that far back.
I would appreciate a second look, if he died in 1793 it's possible that he could have been born a good bit earlier  ~ unless my maths are up the swanie  Grin

ADDED ~ Jan I think i'm sending you on a wild goose chase with this one.
I just re-checked the SMI and my Thomas m Sarah King is the earliest marriage in Bolney for a Picknell, the only other early marriage is his 2nd to Sarah Barnes.  So it's looking increasingly likely that he was from up the road in Cuckfield.

The transcripts were indexed so I just looked for any Picknell - however not sure how far they went back. Will check them and the fiche next time I go.

No luck on your Richard Yaldwyn I'm afraid. I checked both Lurgashall and Lodsworth as best I could. Sadly no transcripts for the right period and Lurgashall was mostly illegible. Sorry.

No baptism I could see for Thomas Picknall c1740 in Bolney or Cuckfield. In Bolney the earliest Picknall entry is 1770.

In Cuckfield I found these 2 baptisms from the dates I would imagine there were more but no transcripts available and a lot of the registers were illegible.

Jul 13th 1735 Mary d of Willm and Eliz Picknald
Sep 25th 1743 Sarah d of Willm and Elizab Picknell

and these marriages

May 6th 1731 John Picknal to Mary Beadle both otp

this one looks particularly interesting

20th April 1732 Thos Picknal of Hurst to Mary Venor otp

Not sure where they mean by Hurst though Huh

Please could you do a baptism look-up for Mary WITTE Huh Hellyer born c. 1856 Westbourne?   Father Jesse - Mother Emma.  Would really like to know her middle name - have seen it transcribed as Witte, Witby and Wilby.
