Thank you so much for that, Jan.  If I can look anything up in Lincoln Archives for you at any time, please ask.

Thanks, Polly

Hi Suey

No baptism I could see for Thomas Picknall c1740 in Bolney or Cuckfield. In Bolney the earliest Picknall entry is 1770.

In Cuckfield I found these 2 baptisms from the dates I would imagine there were more but no transcripts available and a lot of the registers were illegible.

Jul 13th 1735 Mary d of Willm and Eliz Picknald
Sep 25th 1743 Sarah d of Willm and Elizab Picknell

and these marriages

May 6th 1731 John Picknal to Mary Beadle both otp

this one looks particularly interesting

20th April 1732 Thos Picknal of Hurst to Mary Venor otp

Not sure where they mean by Hurst though Huh

Jan, your efforts are much appreciated! there's plenty there to keep us going.  It looks as though you may have found my Thomas  Cheesy

If there are two baptisms for a Thomas one in 1740 and another in 1743 it looks to me as though the Thos died 1742 could be the first one and soon after Mary has another son and calls him Thomas.

I would think this is highly likely but the lack of 'infant' or 'son of' made me wonder if he was an adult -  can't recall whether other burial entries said this, will check another time. I have an instance in my family where two living children definitely had the same name, so it would be worth bearing this in mind. I didn't spot any baptisms for this couple after 1743.
