In every census 1851-81 he gives his birthplace as Washingley Hunts, birth year 1817. Washingley residents used Caldecote and Folksworth churches for baptisms, marriages and burials.

Neither parish is on the IGI or BVRI, but the registers have been transcribed by Hunts FHS.

There's no marriage of a Thomas Marriott to a Sarah on Hunts Marriage Index, or any marriage that would fit in Caldecote or Folksworth; nor is there a Marriott/Christmas marriage.

The 1851 census also has a Thomas born 1826 and William b 1821, both born Washingley.

I am researching Jinkses and have found Washingley residents were often baptised in Lutton just over the border in Northants. I have a record of John Jinks age 24 of Washingley (father Richard Jinks) marrying Ann Marriot 24, also of Washingley (father Thomas Marriot). Witnesses to the wedding were Christmas Marriot, T. Brown and John Jordan. The marriage took place 25/12/1837 by banns.

Records show a Thomas Marriot buried 11/7/1850 age 63 and a Sarah Jinks buiried 13/2/1855 age 87. Hope this helps.

I think on the 1851 census I have christmas marriott  has a niece by the name of mary a jinks! she was born 1839 in washingley , then I searched for her and I think she is the daughter of william and mary ,tho not certain as yet ! I have got christmas marriotts marriage certificate now (he married ann sams )  but it does sound quite possible that they are related ! thankyou !

Jasper, Mary Anne Jinks baptised 17/3/1839 to William and Mary Jinks in Caldecote. William is a labourer. They also have David 7/9/1834, Frances 8/8/1841, Henry 14/7/1844 and Frances again 31/1/1847, John 10/3/1850. An infant Frances was buried 9/5/1842. Interestingly, William is later described as a Publican so has either come up in the world or there are 2 Willian and Marys.

A John Jinks married Ann Marriot in 1836 - they were both from Washingley.

My interest in the Jinkses of Washingley is that my 3 x great grandfather Robert was born there in 1802. If you have any info. on the Jinkses I would be grateful to receive it. Serafina

The IGI is still there, same as before. The Hugh Wallis site has been pulled, hopefully temporarily, because of a malware problem
