Ahh, thanks Heywood!
So he names his father Colonel George Granville MALET.....
Jan, can you please clarify what you mean on the other topic, "Richard Malet of Bombay". Is that the residence he gave when he married Isabella? If so what was the Sutherland St address? Do you have them in 1871 or later, Census? What was his occupation? Who were the witness' to the marriage?
Cheers AMBLY

First of all I had to look up Doppleganger ........ .... so in case anybody else is wondering ... here it is !!
A double, an identical replica of a person. The idea behind this is that everyone has a Doppleganger, an identical copy of themselves somewhere in the world. If the person is good, then the Doppleganger will be evil and vice versa. It is even said that if the two should meet, then they will both perish.
Although there is no evidence that Dopplegangers exist, some people have actually reported claims of witnessing what they believe to be their Doppleganger. In all likelihood however, Dopplegangers are an aspect of myth only.

I was looking at the other post ....
Col Malet was not present at the Charge of the Light Brigade .... I'll check though to see if he was at Balaklava
And I think the certificate says Berwick Street ... which is in Soho ! ( which might change things a bit !! )

Have been looking and looking for 45 Sutherland Street in Pimlico 1861.... Found the address in 1871. Found at least 3 other families in 1871 on that street, who (by births of children) should be in Pimlico in 1861 but couldn't find any of them......then I found the following:
http://www.westminster.gov.uk/libraries/archives/family-history/census.cfm "1861 census for the Pimlico and Belgravia areas of Westminster have not survived"

Here's another bit that might fit in the puzzle.
There is a family of Malets living at 3 Oxford Sq. Paddington in 1861. It looks a possible for George Grenville Malet's widowed 2nd wife. She's an Officers widow with 5 kids, 4 of the 5 were born in India and her husband had been in the 3rd Bengal Cavalry.
See: RG9/8/84/17
modified by Genie. The Malet widow has 4 children, all born in India ( see more below)

I think this web site outlines Mary Maria Fleming TAYLOR, the wife of George Grenville MALET http://www.gencircles.com/users/robinp/2/data/3497
It says her mother Agnes Lisle FORLONG was married 3 times. Husband John TAYLOR who Mary Maria's father died 1828 . Agnes then remarried to a LAWRENCE (died 1840) and then to (General) Allan Thomas McLEAN.
