George of St Georges Hanover Sqare
« on: Tuesday 09 September 08 20:10 BST (UK) »

I am trying to trace details of George F Howard, my Gt Gt Grandfathers elder brother.

I know he was born in 1847, St Georges Hanover Sq, but can not find the details for St Georges, Hanover Square on the Hugh Wallis index.

The last I see of him is in 1861 when he was living with his father George Frederick Howard and my Gt Gt Grandfather, William Edmund Howard.

Any help or information regarding George would be great.

Hiya

Did you use the GRO indexes to find he was born in the registration district of St George Hanover Square?

If so, then St George Hanover Square registration district was a large area & covered quite a few parishes, the following link being of use in what to look for:

On Freebmd there is a George Frederick Howard registered in September 1846 St George Hanover Square.  This is a registration district.  The area includes many churches some of them are in Westminster and Knightsbridge.

The Hugh Wallis site covers churches which are on the IGI and I cannot see George on the IGI.

Thank you, that is exactly the problem I was having.  I just couldn't locate the church that he was baptised at.  His parents were living in Pimlico at the time, coincidentally at St Georges Terrace, near Victoria Station which no longer exists.  They stayed in the area and also lived at Lillingstone Street.  Georges father, also George and his wife were married at St Peters in Pimlico.  Could you locate a baptism for William Edmund Howard, his younger brother who was born in April 1850.

Kind regards

According to a booklet I have there are about 28 churches in the St George Hanover Square registration district.

Sorry i do not have access to any London churches except what I find on the net and that is only in the East End or on the IGI.  The IGI does not have many baptisms as late as that.  You can look for yourself on familysearch.org

You can search freebmd for the birth http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

I'm afraid the easiest way to find information for that area in that time period is to buy the birth certificate
