The Ardnamurchan Census has still to be transcribed by FreeCen.  However I have access to it.  Let me know what you're looking for.

Dear Les Horn,
My Great grandfather Alexander McNeill married Catherine McTaggart in 1854 at Kilcalmonell and Kilberry. I can`t find his birth as there are several Alexander McNeill`s. also spelling varies on various census records and his children`s birth registrations sometimes McNiel etc. On his son Angus`s birth record still at Kilcalmonel in 1855 it says father`s place of birth Ardnamurchan. I wanted to find where Alexander was in earlier census.ie 1851 and 1841. Family where in Lancashire by 1871 at Barton upon Irwell.(name then McNeill but McNiell in 1881) 3 of his children were born at Tayinloan from 1861. His birth from various census is about 1826 but even that varies and by 1901 he is listed as 70 which makes it 1831 and in 1905 on his death certificate he is only 72! In 1871 census place of his birth is ---ness shire Scotland. The family were Gaelic speaking, so would have been hard to understand in Lancashire. Any details of family from census etc before 1855 would be welcome.

If you haven't found this already, have a look at the following website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ked1/ftwillcen.html

This is the Fort William Area - Inverness-shire censuses for 1841/61/81 and includes Ardnamurchan.

Regards.

I'm afraid that Monica is misled.  Brian Keddy's transcriptions of Parishes in the Fort William area DO NOT cover all of the Parish of Ardnamurchan only Arisaig and South Morar QSPs (INV).

The Argyll FreeCen team is in the process of transcribing this vast Parish :-
                  [http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl]
In Argyll -
      Kilchoan, or Ardnamurchan Proper
      Aharacle/Acharacle
      Strontian or Sunart
In Inverness-shire -
      Moidart
      Arisaig
      South Morar

Brian's 1841 transcriptions cover :-

Kilmallie (ARL) - includes Ft William (INV)
Arisaig (INV) - Ardnamurchan Parish (ARL)
South Morar (INV) - Ardnamurchan Parish (ARL)
Morvern (ARL)
Kilmonivaig (INV)
Onich (INV) - Ballachulish & Corran of Ardgour Parish (ARL)
Ardgour (ARL) - Ballachulish & Corran of Ardgour Parish (ARL)
North Morar (INV) - includes Mallaig - Glenelg Parish (INV)

Some of the above are covered for 1861 and 1881 too.
