Thirlwall mystery please can you help??
« on: Wednesday 10 September 08 16:03 BST (UK) »

Hi I've been tracing my family history now for some time, and i really need some help and advise.

I am trying to find Philip Alfred Thirlwall, i know he was born in Hyde Cheshire in abt 1829, and have managed to find him on the 1871, 1891 and 1881 census, where he is married to Elizabeth (Stovold), i am having no luck in finding him on the 1841, 1851, 1861 or 1881 census, nor the registration of his birth.

Please can anyone help or give me any advise as i would love to trace this line further.

Thank you

have you got his marriage Cert - revealing his Fathers name and occupation - and witnesses often help.

no birth regns for the kids shown with Phil* and Eli* in 1891 census  Roll Eyes

I see that Mrs T (Elizabeth) was from Farnham, Surrey - which should be a good search criterion .... but seemingly not .... )

Good Lord, talk about transient !

The kids on there are born in Newcastle, Essex, Kent and Surrey  ...

I see that the Henry I mentioned was a Stoveld originally ....

He's shown as a Pensioner, albeit Labouring somewhere ... given the kids PoBs I wonder if he's ex-Army or Navy ?

Best ask that as a new question on the 'Armed Forces' board - I know you can research such at the National Archives, dont think theres much onlin tho ..

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=14&j=1

you'll get more comprehensive advice from an expert on here tho ...

Yes, thats good - but which year (and District if you remember ? )

So far those combos are predominantly Farnham .... but I'm not seeing Elizabeth Roll Eyes

Good memory - cos Philip is certainly there - 2Q 1863.

wonder why the kids seen in 1871 arent registered ?

I'd be curious and get Henry's Birth Cert   Wink
