« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 19:23 UTC (UK) »

Looking for two families probably from Skye. John Cameron who married Euphemia McDermid.John's parents Donald Cameron and Christina McLeod. Euphemia's parents Donald McDermid and Ann McLeod.  the second family is Mary Scott born abt 1847 Broadfoot to parents Alexander (or John ) Scott and Julia Ross. I have had no luck finding them. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Lomond  Smiley

You don't say where you've been looking.  The most easily available online records (via IGI and Scotlands People)  are from the oldparish registers of the Church of Scotland so if they were of another religion (Roman Catholic, for example), they wouldn't appear there.

Also, marriage laws in Scotland were different than in England and Wales and there were various different, perfectly legal marriages which would not appear in the records.

As Carole says, checking the censuses for them is probably he best way forward.

Regards

Married 'about' and no real sources.

continuing John and Euphemia also had a son John Cameron baptized 18 aug 1832. He married Anne Miller in Central Dist. Glasgow 17 Jul 1857. They had several children to be born and died in the Tradeston/ Clyde Districts of Glasgow and I lost track of them after 1881

Mary Scott married James Cameron in Edinburgh 26 Dec. 1865 (cert. gives Mary's name as Lucy. Her father Alexander Scott and mother Julia Scott ms Ross. This was Edinburgh St. Giles.
Their daugther Margaret Todd Cameron was born in Edinburgh (Canongate) 18 Sep. 1866 (James was a Private in the 74th Foot.
daughter Euphemia Mcdermid(McDiarmid) Cameron born in Greenock  Feb 1873. in 1871 still in Edinburgh.
Mary gives her birthplace as Inverness, Isle of Skye
1891 and 1901 they are in Bonhill, Dumarto and she gives her birthplace as Brodford, Isle of Sky. Mary dies in Paisley and father is given as John Scott, shoemaker and mother Julia Scott ms Ross both dec'd in 1910. Hope this helps.
