Hi - I have a possible for you   Smiley

You won't get a birth certificate for anyone before 1837,  the best you can get is a baptism from church records,  so finding that Branston was part of Burton-on-Trent at that time I found the following

from IGI
HENRY WILLIAM HULSE
Christening:  06 MAY 1819   Burton Upon Trent, Stafford
  Father:  THOMAS HULSE  Family
  Mother:  SARAH

This would make him a bit older than he said in later years but I think it is a good possible.  The most likely candidate I could see in 1841 is

1841 Harbourne Staffs
HO107- 980 Bk 8

Henry Hulse 20 police Y
Jane Hulse 20  N

and I found this marriage in Free BMD

Marriages Dec 1840
BRISCOE  Noah    Shiffnal  18 205
BRIT  James     Shiffnal  18 205
DAVIS  Hannah     Shiffnal  18 205
HAYWARD  Samuel     Shrewsbury  18 205
HOLDEN  Jane     Shiffnal  18 205
HULSE  Henry     Shiffnal  18 205

TUDOR  Martha     Shiffnal  18 205
UNDERWOOD  James     Shiffnal  18 205
VICERS  Jane     Shifnal  18 205

By 1851 when Henry is staying in Derby.  Jane is back with her parents with 3 small children

1851 Staffs Sedgley
Ho107- 2030 Fo 116 P 24

John Holden 61
Elizabeth Holden 57
Jane Hulse 31  dau Mar born Roliston Derbys.
Sarah Hulse 5
William H Hulse 3
John Hulse 10 Mo
Benjamin Tomlinson 16
Joseph Guest 17

Then there is this death again Free BMD

 Deaths Jun 1855
Hulse  Jane     Burton  6b 179

It seems to be a possible - what do you think?

 Smiley

I like it a lot!
The fact that the wife died ties in with him being a widower when he married in Scotland. Its a shame he didn't keep the children thou

Oh wow, at least someone is related!! Do you have any details of Henry hulse? I have his wedding certificate to Mary Grant and the birth of their son, but have no other details on him at all. Maria and Sarah were his sisters then, what happened to all of them?

Will put together what I know ASAP

Sarah Ann married John Rowland from Outwoods B-o-T; widowed young and remarried Charles Lee.  Rest to follow when I can.  We'll have to try and exchange full info somehow

Hi, I've just come into this 'conversation'.  I, too, have a Hulse in my extended family.  Mary Ellen Hulse married my great-uncle, Thomas Craven, Jul-Sep 1907, Shardlow, 7b, 1040.  Later than those mentioned above but may be useful to you at a later date!  Thomas was a gamekeeper (as were his father, grandfather and 4 brothers)...so it's probably all the same family.   Good hunting!

Don't be fooled by Thomas Hulse, gamekeeper.  I know of 2 in the same area of Staffordshire within about 10 miles of each other at the same date

Hi, Keevil:  If you read my post again, you will see that Mary Ellen Hulse married Thomas CRAVEN - my great-uncle.
