Noel Gordon
Family tell me Noel Gordon had an estate or large house down Ross way. Can anyone tell me were? The reason for asking is same as my last post – King brothers 1887 -1897 were gardeners of whom I’m trying to track down their place of work.
Thanks – Ray

Diane
Thank you that’s a great help.
I can research this but do you know off hand when Noel first moved there as it was then that my relative left, so it’s said. And or name of Nursing Home now so I could write, it could well be some older folks may remember some details of my family?
The family story, true or not? A brother was head gardener before Noel arrived and it was his responsibility to plant given plants in the location best suited for them. However Noel insisted she should choose the location so he left

Diane, thank you
In another post of mine: There was a William King Head Gardener to Capt. W F Campbell circa 1926 -1929. Location possibly Harewood. Can anyone throw some light on that please?
Regards
Ray

Hi Ray, Capt. W F Campbell I think but will have to check it out lived at Harewood End Manor now owned by the Duchess of Cornwall HRH the place was for a long time a smoking lab for beagles then with all the Animal Rights people closed it down it was then empty for along time, till it was taken by Prince Charles it was said that William would live there. if you look on google A49 from ross to Hereford look for Harewood the house is between harewood dot and the A49 road. it has a square building and church by the side. Noeles house was called Weir End House and still is as I went by today I took a look, still waiting on Aunt for info. you may pick up some thing on the house by searching net but you may need to look for her under her full name Joan Noele Gorden, Weir End House was her mother home and Nolly would come back at weekends Nollys mums maiden name was Honey it that helps. You never know your Kings may turn up in some info somewhere. As they were such gardeners as Head they may well of put things into the Ross Horticultural show. I know they keep records but will have to find out who keeps them Regards Diana

Hi Diane, thanks again for your help and information.
The Ross Horticultural show is something that hadn’t even crossed my mind but perhaps should off as George King who moved to Birmingham won awards at local allotments as did his son (my dad).
Harewood is figuring highly in the King ancestry as George William King (1860), father of granddad George King and his brothers, was according to Kelly’s a sub-postmaster at Harewood end 1891 – 1926 and it seems at times was also a domestic gardener.
Regards
Ray

My father was a big gardener and the show was a very big part of life in Ross when I was a child. both my mother and farther were on the committee and it was run along side with the regatta on the river bank. Regards Diana
PS the other thing you could try is writhing to Alan Woods he runs the web news on Ross the site is called wyenot, I have known him put in request for history info

I knew Noele Gordon as I too lived in Ross-on-Wye. Her grave is in Ross Churchyard alongside her mother. Often visited by many, it is easy to find. Noele was a committed Christian and worshipped on a weekly basis in Ross Parish Church. Kind regards. John.
