Hello all,

Following some discussion off board. John Paxton and Jean Peacock appeared to have named their children via a traditional naming pattern.  First son after fathers father, second after mothers father, first dau, mothers mother , second dau after fathers mother.

1.  Mary Ferme Paxton.c.14 May, 1820, Kelso, Roxburgh, Scotland
2.  Elizabeth Friskin Paxton c. 09 June, 1822, Kelso, Roxburgh, Scotland
3.  Agnes Paxton c. 02 May, 1824, Kelso, Roxburgh, Scotland.
4.  Jane Paxton c.  09 April 1826, Kelso, Roxburgh, Scotland
5.  James Paxtonc.  02 March 1828, Kelso, Roxburgh, Scotland.
6.  Christina Paxton   c.  11 September, 1831, Kelso, Roxburgh
7.  Walter Peacock Paxton c  17 Aug 1835, Kelso, Roxburgh, Scotland
8.  Euphemia Paxton.  26 Sept 1842, Roxburgh, Scotland.

Jean Peacocks parents were a Walter Peacock (hotel keeper), and Mary Ferme - so there the pattern holds.  For the the other half of the pattern, John Paxtons parents 'should' be Elizabeth Frisken (not Purves) and a James Paxton - any thoughts......?   (Agnes was a younger sister of Jean Peacock - only sibling of hers I can find at present).

Have marriages for all the above children apart from Walter (who did not marry in 1863 :O) and James - who is mentioned in Joseph Moirs will - did he die in the southern hemisphere?

Thanks for all your input,

Regards,   Steve .

Update:  Have sent an e-mail to the owner of the website which states that John was a fisherman.  Can't find a John Paxton of the correct age who was a fishermonger.  Looks like a typo - should have been James?

Steve

I think I found a brother to Jane Peacock - but can't confirm it  Undecided

There is a Walter Peacock born in Haddington anywhere from 1804 - 1809, subject to census ages. He married firstly an Agnes Craig on 15 APR 1826 North Berwick, East Lothian (first born son looks to be named Walter, b. 1828 in Edinburgh) and then in 1848 in Dalkeith he married for the second time a Mary PAXTON (from Dunse  Roll Eyes) younger than him by some years. However, his DC shows no names for parents so hard to confirm.

The closest I can see for this Mary Paxton b. c. 1827 takes us back to Dunse and the tinsmith/fishmonger family of James Paxton and Elizabeth Purves. From 1841:

James Paxton 45, fishmonger
Mary Paxton 40
Margaret Paxton 15
James Paxton 14
Mary Paxton 12
Catherine Paxton 10
Franis Paxton 1

Address: Castle Wynd South Side, Dunse

If you remember from the other post on the family, there is a James, son, b. 1792 in Dunse to James and Elizabeth (Purves).

Thanks Monica et al,

Just back off SP.  Search from 1785 to 1825 - using name of father 'Walter Peacock' only, brings up 7 births - all in Haddington East Lothian.  4 to 'our' couple - Walter Peacock/Mary Ferm/e.

1.  08/02/1800 Jean - my sons line
2.  10/09/1801 Agnes
3.  07/02/1803 Walter
4.  30/10/1804 James

Downloaded Jeans birth entry to see if fathers occupation was there and it was and ties in as 'Hostler'

We seem to have digressed and developed from the original post - but it's all good stuff   :O)

For the Walter which you found (the son) first marriage, the IGI shows 2 children:

WALTER PEACOCK Birth: 17 OCT 1828 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
MARY PEACOCK Ch: 17 NOV 1836 Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland

and for the 2nd marriage:

MARGARET PEACOCK  Ch: 12 AUG 1848 Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland
JAMES PEACOCK Birth: 08 APR 1855 Carnwath, Lanark, Scotland
FANNY PEACOCK Birth: 21 MAY 1857 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
WALTER JAMES PEACOCK Birth: 21 JUN 1860 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
MARY PEACOCK Birth: 05 APR 1864 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

Thanks again.  Regards,   Steve :O)
