Mayo Lookup Please - Murray
« on: Tuesday 16 September 08 15:33 UTC (UK) »

I would be very greatful if anyone could find any info on a Ellen Murray born in Mayo somewhere in abt 1839.  She married a Michael Gilmore of Rosscommon in Leeds in 1859.  Any details on Michael would also be very appreciated also born abt 1839.

I have found them in Leeds on the 1861 - 1901 cencus' but would love to trace their roots back to Ireland.

Many thanks in anticipation.

As civil registration of births in Ireland only began in 1864 you will need to search for church records (if they exist) for baptisms, etc. but in order to do so you need to know where they lived (parish if not actual townland not just the county).
Aside from English census records where else have you tried searching for them?

Hi this is the only info I have.  They didn't normally put the place of birth on the census only Ireland but I was fairly lucky with the 1891 census showing the county of birth.

I hven't searched anywhere else apart from the census'

If they were married in Leeds in 1859 does the marriage certificate not list the names of their fathers?

Hi

I haven't got the cert yet, am working down the line. As there are so many to get, it might take me a while to organise them all, so thougt I might be able to bypass it at the moment.

Never mind!!!
