Hi Rootschatters, The attached image is taken from the margin of a death certificate from District of PEEBLES, (Scotlandspeople) where the cause of death has been left blank. It is believed that this person took their own life. Can anyone help me with the FIRST and THIRD word please. Secondly, advice please on how to access the Register of Corrections, preferably on line. Thank you.

Cannot imagine what it might mean in the circumstances but looks like:
"Result of Precognition"
to me.

Quick g**gle search and "precognition" seems to be a Scottish legal term.
So I don't think it has anything to do with ESP, just the legal process of the enquiry.

Thanks Dudley,
2. Scots Law. a. the examination of witnesses and other parties before a trial in order to supply a legal ground for prosecution. b. the evidence established in such an examination. Holds up the idea of 'foul play'

I find the way some things are done in Scotland so interesting. In my world, the death certificate is not issued until after the enquiry has taken place, so the results are on the certificate - I must admit I have never seen one where results are changed at a later date - which must happen.
I am glad Dudly interpreted the last word - result of ? - was the best I could manage
Oh dear - thankyou for the result, we do have some sad results in our family research. My ggg grandmother walked into the river one night, presumably so she would not be a burden on her children (11 of them) 1883

Hi Trish, It is sad, this was my dad's favourite aunt. The cause of death had been left blank on the original, with a diagonal line through the box. Hope this helps. Thanks again.
