I have a copy of the 1866 marriage certificate for Helen Thomson & William Graham in the district of Newington, Edingburgh.

I am slightly puzzled that the address for the marriage is given as the same as Helens address (3 Craigside Place Edinburgh).

Was it normal to be married at your house?  or is it more likely that they were married in the local church at Newington - but it is not on the marriage record?

Any ideas?

It was quite common for marriages to take place at the bride's home or other private residence rather than the church.  It was not a requirement to marry in a church.
The certificate will tell you which church was involved - column 1 might say something along the lines:
after publication according to the forms of the Church of Scotland/United Presbyterian Church/Free Church of Scotland.

The certificate does indeed say at 3 Craigside Place after Banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland.
