Lowestoft Cemtery - grave look up please

Would some kind soul help me please? (and forgive me if I am not doing this right - my first posting!)

I need to check whether a headstone exists for a burial in Lowestoft Cemetery, and if it does then exactly what the inscription says; the details are:

Bertie Ward
Date of Burial 13 September 1952
Age 66
of 18 Heath Road, Lowestoft
an employee of British Railways
Burial Plot L / K / 167

If anyone could supply a photograph that would be even better, indeed just wonderful!

Does 18 Heath Road still exist?

If anyone can help I would be very grateful

Normally a specific request would be best posted on the LOOKUP REQUESTS board, but in this case as you would like a photograph the Suffolk GENERAL board is the right place.  This is because imaging is disabled on the LOOKUP REQUESTS board.

Welcome to Rootschat ACEngland

Having some time to spare this fine morning I downloaded the map of the cemetery off the District Council website and set off with my daughter to look for your grave/headstone.

There was no problem with identifying the area K/L on the map. However we were unable to locate a stone with Bertie Ward on it. In the area there are a number of low level surrounds most of which are overgrown with grass and really need some sort of tool to clear. There are also quite a few unmarked/unused plots. Finally a number of upright stones hace been felled onto their front face so you can't see the name!

As it was the weekend there didn't seem to be any staff about to ask!

All in all an unsatisfactory outcome for you.

Do you know if this is a one person or multiple occupancy grave?

Pete, thanks for taking the time to go and visit

Yokel... did you visit the cemetery or have you found that information from somewhere else? and is the date you kindly provided the date of death or date of burial?

The Bertie Ward in question is potentially a relation of my Mother (an uncle to be precise).... she was 'adopted' soon after she was born. My mother's real mother was a Ward and she had two brothers an Edwin (buried in Norwich) and Bertie... I have yet to categorically tie the Bertie Ward in Lowestoft cemetery with my mother's uncle of the same name, but the age is about right. It was a long shot.... I had hoped that Bertie's father 'Cornelius' might have been mentioned on the grave! but perhaps it is not to be.

Once again, thank you very much for your kindness...... should you find anything else out I would be very interested to hear from you

The date is the burial date and the info came from the Waveney District Council's web site 'Cemeteries Index'

had a look at the 1901 census  http://www.1901censusonline.com

there is a 15 year old Bertie in Lowestoft and a 7 year old in Norwich
there is also an 11year old Edwin in Norwich but no Bertie

I don't have access to the 1901 online, maybe some kind person will look these families up and see who the father is Wink

15 year old Lowestoft Bertie's father is Samuel. 7 year old Norwich Bertie's father is Charles and Norwich Edwin's father is George.

Thank you very much indeed for your help... and my grovelling apologies for not getting back to you before now; all because I just got married, a poor excuse I know!

It seems that the Bertie in Lowestoft is not the great uncle I am searching for then..... back to the drawing board (you can tell I am an amateur at this thing!)

Bertie and Edwin's father was Cornelius Ward and they lived in Norwich

I shall keep searching
