Did Robert & Margaret return to British Guyana after their marriage?  Were the children born there or in Scotland?

Hi CaroleW,

I have no idea if Robert Duncan's wife or children ever went to British Guiana (B.G.).  The information I have of Robert Duncan in B.G. never mentions family members.

1901 may be some of the children living in Institution Place, Dollar Clackmannanshire.  They are all shown as boarders so it may be some kind of boarding school

The image itself cannot be viewed on Ancestry to clarify the birthplaces so I am going by the transcription only which, as you can see, does not make a lot of sense.

William J Duncan 14  British, Einguits
Catherine J Duncan 13 British, Essiquits
Alice F Duncan 11 British, Eingsubs
David C Duncan 9 b British Demerara

Hi CarolW,

I believe you have hit paydirt!!

Demerara (B.G.) is where Robert Duncan was the manager of a Sugar Plantation. Believe it or not his address there was "Hampton Court".

David C. Duncan could be Robert Duncan's nephew - my grandfather.

Really appreciate your assistance.

Hi CaroleA,

Thanks again for your assistance.

I have downloaded a copy of the register of the census from ScotlandsPeople.
Robert's children are attending the Dollar Institutiom boarding school.  The children are described as "British" as they were born overseas and registered as "British Subjects" B.G.

They were probably born in "Essequibo Islands - West Demerara, British Guiana".

Will have to look up the Colonial Lists at Kew Gardens.

Hi

Possibly Helena and Dorothy were too young to be sent away to boarding school by 1901 but it's odds on they were also born in BG

Hi All,

Research has found that Cyril Duncan is in fact named David Cyril Duncan and he was killed in the First World War - Second Lieutenant, 14th (County of London) Battalion (London Scottish), London Regiment. Killed in action 21st August 1918. Aged 27.

That Catherine I. Duncan married Hylton Widdrington Young in St. Jude's Church, Earls Court London 1823.  Names of children unknown.

That William Jack Duncan became a doctor and believed to have practiced medicine in the Far East in the Malay States as late as 1936. Passenger Listing Source shows his wife in a
Border Crossings: From Canada to U. S., 1895-1956
Name: Lillian Rose Duncan - Arrival Date: 22 Apr 1936 - Age: 47

No info as rest of the other siblings: Alice, Helena and Doris.

Any leads appreciated.
