Hi,
I am doing a one-name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about the parents, grandparents and siblings of William George Rossiter born circa 1890 at Milton.
In 1915 he married May French at Faversham.
Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.
Best wishes

Hi grandarog / wozzle,
Many thanks for the posts.
I have the first family posted in my database. It is George Thomas Rossiter & Esther Wickins.
As for William born in Ashford, perhaps Wozzle you could post the family details and I will try to see if I can match him up.
Have a good day.
Best wishes

The William George ROSSITER bc1890 Milton is shown as the son of a Sarah ROSSITER http://www.familysearch.org
Can you be sure that he is one and the same as the one who married May FRENCH at Faversham?

Hi casalguidi,
Thanks for your post and the link to the Familysearch 1901 Census.
I found a record which says that Sarah is the daughter of John Rossiter & Esther Been. Looks like William George could have been base born. It also confirms the marriage of William G to May French.
Think this thread can be wrapped up please.
Have a good day.
Best wishes

Hello rcuser,
There is one more ROSSITER fellow whom you may wish to consider as the husband of May FRENCH.
From East Kent Families Database:
ROSSITER George William Chr 20 Oct 1886 Parents: John/Sarah Jane Place: Faversham Source: BT
There are no other children of John and Sarah Jane christened at Faversham but there is a marriage of an Edward ROSSITER to Edith CLARKSON at Faversham in 1882 with father named as John ROSSITER.
I have not checked the censii for this family. Perhaps John here was from Milton area originally.
Sincerely Zacktyr

Hi Zacktyr,
Thanks for that.
I have John Rossiter & Sarah Jane Hone & their family in my database.
Now I am in something of a quandary as I have two possibilies for the husband of May French.
Worse still no real way to decide which.
best wishes

Hello rcuser,
I checked the 1901 census and find that George Rossiter was living and working at Teynham as a brickfield labourer.
The marriage of William G. Rossiter and May French, as you know, took place at Faversham, St. Mary of Charity church during 1915. The marriage is listed on the Kent Registration Services site being entry number 41, in register 88/9 for 1915. You can download the marriage certificate application at http://extranet3.kent.gov.uk/sp/rois/pdfs/postal_application_for_a_marriage_Certificate.PDF but I see that now they are charging GB7.00 for a certificate.
Perhaps you might find some kind soul to do a lookup for you at Canterbury Cathedral or Centre reference number CCA-U3-146/1/D/11 and CCA-U3-146/1/D/12 (it appears 1915 is spread over two files). Unfortunately LDS does not have copy of register of marriages for that time period. At least with father's name and occupation you stand a chance of eliminating the least likely candidate.
Good luck.
Sincerely, Zacktyr
