Hmmmm.  He certainly survived and was married in NZ in 1905, aged 38.  From that I took his birth to be c1867 and a look on FreeBDM showed up the Wolstanton birth.  Maybe that was a coincidence.

Do you have access to further 1871 census records from the UK?  The first name is quite distinctive.

There are lots of sampson's b c. 1867 - but no other Buxtons

the sampson and hannah Isobelruss found didn't marry until 1869 -so are not likely to  the  parents of Sampson who (we assume)died in infancy.

However Sampson buxton who married hannah Walton Plant in 1869 is the only other sampson i can find -and he was born c 1845

What other information do you have about "your" Sampson - father's name from marriage cert?Huh
