Hi Michael. Have just read your post, and thought I`d see what I could do to help. I live on the outskirts of Coupar Angus, and whilst not describing myself as a historian, I am very interested in local history. The Hay family is certainly well known locally, so it should be possible to find out where they are buried. I would just add that I have only recently come out of hospital, so am a bit slower than usual, but I`ll see what I can do. I do have a record of all the burials at the Abbey Church, but can`t lay my hand on them at the moment.

thanks for that it's all very confusing, was in the modern church last night, met with the perthshire historic society people in CA yesterday who said yes they are all there!!!! .
the historian from Perth archives pulled out a book (little yellow one called "north perthshire pre 1855 burial inscriptions) this book was produced about 1890 by a council surveyor physically walking round every graveyard and it states that at that time there was 15 earl's buried there from the first one William DE haye who was cupbearer to king Malcolm(aka the same king who opened the abbey in the 1100's).
then the lady showing us round said its all rubbish and the council are wrong !!!the minister agreed with her !!! and as she said this my mum was reading the little leaflet THEY produce and on the last page it says "there are many nobles buried in the abbey precinct not least 13 earl's of Errol"
so the council/perth archives/historic society say they are there but the minister says they are not so the plot thickens??
i was wondering if it's because they dont wont too many folks walking about?hunting them down? the perth guy was saying the wives are buried on top of the men in the same caskets, so if thats the case then gilberts son married eliz stewart the bruce's daughter and their son thomas i think married his first cousin robert II (the bruces son) daughter so from a DNA point of view you could not get much closer to the bruce, as the first born (thomas) carries the bruces maternal DNA.as does his son and eliz stewart herself and so on.
hopefully i can get it resolved, gonna have a look at meigle and bendochy as well see whats there, there is meant to be some old stones in both. and the refrectory where the monks stayed is in meigle.

Hi Michael
This archeologically useful document refers to William de Hay (in 1305) requesting that he be buried in the chapter house of the abbey at Coupar Angus. http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/adsdata/PSAS_2002/pdf/vol_125/125_1045_1068.pdf
This one states that Gilbert de Haye was buried at the Abbey also. http://www.archive.org/stream/annalsofanguspar00ingliala/annalsofanguspar00ingliala_djvu.txt
It is unfortunate that so little remains of the Abbey in order to establish where any reference features might have been.
The National archives of Scotland do have the Cartularies of the Abbey 1443-1562. There might be something of use in there. ref: CH6/2
