SheronB's Scavenger Hunt...Everyone Welcome To Join In.
« on: Wednesday 24 September 08 11:15 UTC (UK) »

Welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt, it's a day late but I'm sure you'll all get stuck in.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Barbara

                         **********************************

George Edward Lewis

My great grandfather, born 03/12/1888 at 4 Howard Place King St Birmingham

Father William Joseph Lewis, mother Mary Ann Lewis formerly BEAN! This is where it gets interesting! From the census, George had 3 brothers:

William Joseph born 23/06/1882 Howard Place King St, father same name, mother Mary Ann BEIL!!

Thomas born 25/08/1884, at Howard Place King St father same, mother Mary Ann BEAL (a contact has this birth cert)

Alfred born 07/02/1891 – 1896 at 4 Howard Place King St, father the same, mother Mary Ann BEAL.

The registrar for these births, changes between the names Goodall and  Goodan, spelling mistake by him?

There is no marriage in any of these names of William Joseph Lewis.

Mary Ann Lewis died in 1899 aged 45 in Oldfield Rd.

We have been unable to find any trace of a Mary Ann Bean/Beal, who according to the census was born in Oldham, Lancashire.

On Georges marriage cert they are living at Oldfield Rd in 1913.

My contact has another theory, on the 1881 census, young William is at home(though parents obviously not confirmed without marriage or birth cert for William, though William had a brother called Edward, whose son Alfred born 1893 – 1969, my contact knew of) with brother Edward, father Thomas and mother Jane.

This Mary gives her place of birth as Claybrook Leicestershire, and there is no sign of her after 1881, could she be Mary Ann Bean/Beal?

We also have Edward, Williams brothers, birth cert, born 20/03/1866, at Darwin rd bham, where the family is in 1871, father Thomas Lewis, mother Jane Wadsworth, there is NO marriage to be found for these two either!!

Can anyone help please.

If Mary was married previously before marrying William Lewis then it would be state on the birth cert formerly (meaning maiden name) late (meaning previous married name/s)

1881
William Lewis 21
M.A. Mc Ivoy 28

RG11/3020 Folio 91 Page: 22

Now my contact thinks Mary Ann on here is Mary ann  McIlroy, who is Mary Ann Bailey and marrys William McIlroy in Oldham!

Marriages Dec 1868   (>99%)
________________________________________
BAILEY    Mary Ann        Oldham
8d   955

McILROY    William         Oldham
8d   955

This Mary gives her place of birth as Claybrook Leicestershire, and there is no sign of her after 1881, could she be Mary Ann Bean/Beal?

I don't think M A  McIvoy(28 in 1881) can be The Mary Ann Bailey = William McIlroy in 1868...as M A McIvoy was b c 1853.
