Wade family of Kilcloon - who were they?
« on: Saturday 27 September 08 05:43 UTC (UK) »

I am totally stuck on this family!  Somehow they are related to an ancestor of mine, Mary Donohue who married Bernard Reynolds in 1845 in the Parish of Kilcloon.  Apparantly Mary married beneath herself and she was disowned by her family - the Wades.   I have to assume this 'may' have been her mother's side of the family.  But who were the Wade family to say this?   The only link I have to Mary and the Wade family is that Elizabeth Wade was a witness at her wedding.  I've found an Elizabeth Wade's married in Kilcloon in 1852 who married a MacCormick.  Nearly of Mary Reynolds (nee Donohue) children were born in Kilcock, Kildare and later in Dublin.  She came to NZ and when her son's or grandsons we to visit the family during one of the wars the family shut the door on them!!  So who were they??  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at Griffith's Valuation and see if you can find any Wades in the right area. If so, how much property did they have?- this will might give you at least an indication of their wealth.

Hi.. lol.  I went to send you a message and I typed it in and sent it to the Moderator by accident!!!  I'm sure he/she is delighted to know about graveyards!!  Anyway, what I was saying was that I live about 2 miles from Kilcloon and there is a graveyard and old Church of Ireland Church here beside my house, which I have never been in but have been threathening to go into for about 3 years.  I believe that both COI members and Roman Catholics were buried there from 1700 to 1950, and that most of the headstones are in tact.  If you want, I can go in and have a look for you to see if there is anything there.  Also, I have to go the parish priest in Kilcloon over the next two weeks or so for something else, but if you want me to, I can go in and check the records there for you re Wade.  I dont know if that is any help.  You can email me on

if I can be of any help.  Also, the graveyard in Kilcock is only about 7 miles away if that's of any assistance.  I know how hard it can be to find a link!!.. Kind regards, Irene  Smiley

I have found a little more information which may help .... Mary Donohue's parents were Thomas Donohoe and Jane Smith.  Thomas was a farmer according to her death certificate.  It looks like they were from Kilcloon in Meath but I can't find them.
