It looks like a second marriage for Alex as in 1851 in Huntingdon St Benedict: Alexander 60 b Hartford Hunts; Mary Ann 35 b Brampton; John 16, Richard 14, Sarah 9, Elizabeth 7, Mary Ann 5, James 2, George 10 mths. All children b Huntingdon.

His first marriage may have been to Ann Nugent in Hartford in 1817

Whilst Hartford baptisms are on the BVRI there's no Alexander Gifford

hi David thank you for that. my great grandmother was Emma Gifford born abt 1853 huntingdon. she married Edward thomas hodson 18 Nov 1876 in ashton under Lynne, on their marriage certificate her father was Alexander Gifford. i wonder if this is the same person.

In 1861 in the Union Workhouse, Huntingdon:
Alexander Gifford Inmate widower 72 Farm lab b Hartford, Hunts
I? Gifford Inmate son 13 scholar b Huntingdon
G Gifford inmate son 11 scholar b Huntingdon
G Gifford inmate son 9 scholar b Huntingdon
G Gifford inmate dau 2 b Huntingdon

None of these look like her unless the 9 year old was actually female.

Her baptism is on the IGI in Sept 1854 at Huntingdon, but I suspect she was born a year earlier from a birth on FreeBMD in the September quarter 1853.

If you buy the 1842 marriage cert you'll get fathers' names. I might then be able to find a possible marriage of his parents, which should be pre 1790
