Hello, I have been reading with interest about your entry re the Burt family and would like to add my tuppence worth and maybe search your brain for more info! We have a John Burt in our family born c 1717 in Dunfermline who married Rachel Hunter in November 1740. Their son John Burt (b, August 1751) married Arminta Wright in 1776 and their daughter Minto married Thomas Morris in1806. My gt. gt. Grandad was a grieve at the Elgin Colliery in Parkneuk and lived at Blackburn. I think they all worked or lived in Parkneuk at some time or other. Do you think the above Burts are part of the same family as yours? Look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Linda Taylor.

Hi,
What was the name and dob of your ggrandfather? I have connections with the Burt family from Dunfermline, and the Hunter family. My ancestors also worked at the Elgin Colliery in Parkneak. We have a mystery relative called Stephen Miller dob 1886/7 who was born in Blackburn but nobody can trace him. I know this is a long shot but with so many similarities I had to write.

Hi Lindapupcat,
Although I feel certain we have some connection I cannot see it. I will continue to do research and get back to you if I make any headway.
I am in the freezing cold Isle of Man.

Hello again, You might get more info from Scotland's People and the Church of Latter Day Saints family search. It's £6 for 30 credits on SP but LDS's is free. Freezing here in Dunfermline too. Linda.

I have been following your correspondence about the Burt family with great interest. I am researching an ancestor named Robert Burt and am hoping you may be able to help me. From ScotlandsPeople, and censuses, I know that he married Margaret Watt in 1823 in East Lothian and that they had five children: Andrew, David, Elizabeth, John and Robert. The OPR of Robert's death (1859, Edinburgh) gives his parents as Andrew, a weaver, deceased, and Nancy Williams, deceased. I understand that the names Nancy and Agnes are interchangeable, so I think that he may be the son of Andrew Burt and Agnes Williamson, born Baldridge, Fife in 1801.
I have read another series of posts under Burt History and there is some correlation between what I have and the information posted. I am confused however by discrepancies between the IGI and ScotlandsPeople. Although both agree on Robert's marriage date and place, they differ on the birthdates of his children and I can't find any records on ScotlandsPeople for the birth of Robert to Andrew and Agnes. Have you encountered a similar problem? Would you have a suggestion for how I might resolve this problem? I live in Australia so am unable to see original documents in person.
Grateful any assistance or advice you could give.
Cheers
Earl

Hi Beansgram,
I have been trying to find the answer for you about John Burt/Isobel Anderson, without any luck so far. Do you have any further info i.e. dob's for either of them?
