Clans McPherson, Galloway & Taylor
« on: Monday 29 September 08 03:48 BST (UK) »

Hello,

Could i ask for some help re confirming or clarifying the following:

On my Grandfather's side:

MARY TAYLOR:  b 18 April Abbotshall, Fife:  did she marry JAMES McPHERSON b 1828.
Their son DAVID CAMERON McPHERSON was my grandfather's father.

Were Mary's parents:  DAVID TAYLOR [b 17 Aug 1794, Abbotshall] and CATHERINE GALLOWAY [14 Feb 1801]; a David Taylor and Kathrine Galloway md on 15 Nov 1818, in Abbotshall.

Did Catherine come from Markinch or Kinghorn?  I have several options re her parentage via the IGI.  I favour at this point her parents as being David Galloway and Catherine Meldrum.  Am i right or wrong here?

On my Grandmother's side:

Catherine Galloway was born c1820, and i have her parents as David Galloway [b18 Apr 1795] and Margaret Blythe [4 Jul 1796] - both in Scotland.

Catherine Galloway md Daniel Ferguson 5 Oct, 1843 in Scotland and they had one daughter Agnes Paterson Ferguson, b 1853, Newtendon, Scotland.

Would someone be able to confirm or otherwise what i've said above please.

Regards,
Thanks,
Julie

Hi Julie, have you tried looking on Scotlands People. If they lived beyond 1855 then their death records should contain their parents names

I'm a little late in this but I was wondering whether you've made your connection regarding Catherine Galloway (1801). If you have, there is apparently a Galloway bible at the Kirkcaldy Museum. The Fife Death Index has a number of entries regarding David Galloway and Katherine Meldrum and their family which reference "Galloway Record Book - Kirkcaldy Museum" and "family bible". You might want to contact the Museum to see if you can get any information on the daughter Catherine.

If you are connected to David Galloway and Katherine Meldrum, the Fife Death Index has these entries regarding their deaths which, as mentioned, indicate the family bible is the source:

David Galloway, baptised 26 Dec 1756, son of John Galloway and Isobel Nicholson, husband of Kath Meldrum (married 1782) died 4 Apr 1837 in Kinghorn, West Bridge at the age of 80 and he was a weaver.

Katherine Meldrum Galloway was born 6 July 1759 (there's a typo in the Index that says 1739 however that doesn't match her age at death and would have made her 62 when she had Catherine in 1801) and died 6 Feb 1837 at the age of 79 in Kinghorn, West Bridge. There is also a reference to her marriage to David in 1782.

I wanted to make sure that information is known because I've seen a number of trees posted that erroneously have the David Galloway who married Katherine Meldrum as the son of Thomas Galloway and Euphemia Crawford.  Thomas Galloway and Euphemia Crawford's son David Galloway married Elizabeth Williamson.

Hello Jacquie,

Sorry this is so overdue.
Thank you for your considerations.
I like and know the value of rigorous research.  The importance of having supporting material/primary sources is fundamental and very satisfying.
This is my mother's side and have put a hold on working it as my father turns 90 this week and there's so much to keep at!!

Kind regards
Julie

Hi all,

Whilst on the subject of 'Galloway's, would anyone have a record of Ann Galloway born around 1841 who was married to George McCall?

Thanks
Lorraine
