birth and marriage certificates

What sort of information is provided on a birth or marriage certificate from Scotland? also what is the best way to access same for somone from overseas? and finally is there any online indexing of certificates, ?Any help is appreciated.

Hi Loandy,

Scotlands People, (Register House) is the site you want to be on. For £6 you get 30 credits. Which potentially gets you 5 copies of certificates.

The marriage cert will give you, occupation of bride and groom, ages, addresses, parents names, including mothers maiden name if known, occupation of fathers and witnesses names.

Birth cert will give parents names, fathers occupation, sometimes marriage date of parents.

Death certs will give you Parents names, age and cause of death, place of death and informants name.
