I am looking to gather information on my Grandmother, whom considering she only died 35 years ago, there is little information on within the immediate family.
Her Name is Mary Cunningham, born circa 1910. I do not have any parents names but i know she had slightly older brother Frank / Francis and also a step sister called Annie - there is a view that her mother died whilst Mary was still young and the father remarried. She left Fillmore and went to Co. dublin and met my Grandad.
I am aware that this is little in the way of information and i guess rather than answers, some good direction in terms of resources would be helpful as i am fairly experienced at navigating around Dublin records but have minimal virtual or real knowledge of Tullamore / Offaly. Thanks
Marc

Jack Apologies for the delay in acknowledging your reply - I'm not to clever at managing posts and this one was overlooked - Sorry, but thanks for the information.
Out of interest, i have some more information that suggests that Mary Cunningham was born in November (ish) 1903 which would make her 7 or 8 on the 1911 census. Is this information available on the census ? are there any birth details available on-line?
Slan go foill

Hi Marc, No, those books only give names and streets, but the Irish Family History Foundation gives - ohas@iol.ie as a contact for Offaly, so that might be worth a try, but again, Midlandsancestry in the best place. Regards, Jack

** UPDATED WITH NEW INFO IN A BID TO GENERATE NEW INTEREST**
I am looking to gather information on my Grandmother, whom considering she only died 35 years ago, there is little information on within the immediate family.
Her Name is Mary Cunningham, born circa 1903. I do not have any parents names but i know she had slightly older brother Frank / Francis and also a step sister called Annie - there is a view that her mother died whilst Mary was still young and the father remarried. She left Tullamore and went to Dublin and met my Grandad, Augustine Keyes.
ADDITIONAL INFO: A story has come to light from a reliable source. It relates to an older brother whom was murdered one morning leaving church by the 'Black & Tans'. I would assume that this would be pre 1922 and my Nan was perhaps 14 years old, so i am guessing 1918? It is felt that the mother of Mary never recovered fully and eventually died in, what i have estimated from info available, circa 1940 in an asylum / hospital.
I would welcome any knowledge of this event or any other information detailed here. In addition, if you know of where i might access information like newspapers or parish information - i am hoping that an incident such as the murder of a parishioner might have warranted some mention somewhere?
I am aware that this is little in the way of information and i guess rather than answers, some good direction in terms of resources would be helpful Thanks
Marc

I have made some progress on this thread but i am still in need of help so stay with me... I have made some progress since the last post as to Mary ( My Grandmother) which is as follows: Mary CUNNINGHAM - Father: Peter CUNNINGHAM, Mother: Brigid (Bridget) BYRNE. I have yet to receive the requested confirmation of her DOB from the GRO , but thanks to the additional information supplied by the great people at St. Marys Church, Harrington Street, Dublin & the FAMILYSEARCH site , i was able to confirm the following: Peter CUNNINGHAM married Bridget BYRNE in TULLAMORE , Co. Offally in Apr-June 1899.
I believe that i have traced the death of Bridget CUNNINGHAM, but i would like to find out more about her final days, as i believe that she died in an Asylum.
Question: Can anybody provide any details of Asylums for the County at the est. date of death (1942), and more so , will it be possible to access those files or information? The reason for Bridget's state of health comes back to the reputed loss of her Son to the actions of the Black & Tans... A thought i have is that this might be a Son or a Brother? so this would make the Victims name either CUNNINGHAM or BYRNE. Any advice on how i might identify B&T murders in the county?
As always any help or support greatly appreciated.
Marc
