The IGI haas this rather strange ancestral file

thomas Linberry
Birth:   24 Dec 1801
  Hull, , Yorkshire, England
Death:   10 Oct 1869
  Steyning, , Sussex, England

Marriage(s):
Spouse:  Sarah HAZELGROVE

Might be worth getting a look up on the 1861 for Steyning and seeing if he's there and is actually from Hull

There's a gap in the parih register transcriptions for Hull at this date

Thanks, Catswhiskers.

All my Linberrys come from West Sussex.  This one is my gggg grandfather.  There were other Linberrys in West Sussex prior to his birth (yet to prove a connection) so the apparent Hull birth is a puzzle.  I have found no other Linberrys with a Hull connection.

I'll try the Sussex board as you suggested.

Hi Dimps,

Had a look at the 1851 census and no Linberry, linbery or Linbury in East Yorkshire, Hull area

Thanks Wobbly.

The Linberrys seem to have stayed in Sussex.  My current theory is that Thomas's father was a seaman, sailing between Littlehampton and Hull, that he met and married someone in Hull and they returned to Sussex after a while.

When I get a chance, I'll have a look at the ships records in Chichester.
