James Milne/Margaret Sharp
« on: Wednesday 01 October 08 11:02 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find information about James Milne and Margaret Sharp of Rothes

I have found that they had 2 children - Margaret Milne b 1795 and James Milne b1799.
James Milne (jnr) married Charlotte Masson and had a family in Aboyne.

I jhave not been able to find anything about Margaret Milne or the parents James Milne and Margaret Sharp.

Would be interested to hear if anybody has come across these names.

Hello jaco,

Welcome to Rootschat.  No more joy than you in the search.  I tried Libindex - which I'm sure you have, and can find no record of them - only of James who married Charlotte..  :O(

Hi Steve
Thank you for your reply. You have confirmed what I had found and yes I had tried Libindex.

This family is a direct line in my family tree so I am particularly interested in trying find them.

The only other information I have is that on James Milne(jnr) death certificate his father James Milne was recorded as a feuar.

Regards

Jaco

The only other information I have is that on James Milne(jnr) death certificate his father James Milne was recorded as a feuar.

A feuar is someone who holds property by payment of a feu duty. It's not quite the same as being a tenant - unless I am mistaken the feu duty was for the land, and the feuar might own the buildings on the feu.

I've quite often seen the term feuar used to describe someone who has no easily describable occupation, such as someone who is retired.
