Hi,
I am new to this forum, I am needing some light shed into what I'm trying to find.
I have just started officially, I've asked my mum for some history in family tree but not so helpful so all I know,
My dad's name is William Duffy, he's passed away in 2002 - he was adopted so I'm looking to see in both areas of his family history. My dad was married and had a son called Paul Duffy then remarried to Elizabeth Murray and was known as Elizabeth McKillop and remarried with my father- William. Aunt Eddie not sure of her surname think its Gill Mary Hamilton who lived on Beeches Road David Hamilton - sisters with Mary Hamilton, I believe he's still alive Beth - unknown surname
Also some of the family would be living in America and New Zealand.
I am trying to shed light on this family tree and seems harder than I thought!
Hope somebody can help me find some tracks to focus on as it's a bit messy!

Hi Mac10, As the people you know about are fairly recent you would perhaps be better starting with the records in either Edinburgh or Glasgow if you have access to these places. If you look for them online on 'scotlandspeople' you will have to order them. A death or marriage certificate will possibly give you enough information to get started on your ancestors by providing parents names and occupations.

Hey,
Update to what I've got so far - I've managed to find my dad's parents and grandparents- His parents were - William Joseph Duffy married to Mary Gill Grandparents- Edward Duffy married to Ann McMurray, William Gill married to Mary Marshall, Their parents- Edward Duffy Married to Catherine McDade, Torrence McMurray Married to Annie McGuire, Philip Gill married to Bridget (Can't work out surname as have old certificate - hard to read writing) and Richard Marshall married to Mary, surname was hard to read aswell. one of the holes in this research are William Duffy married to Sarah Docherty married on 5th Nov 1886. Their parents are William Duffy married to Margaret McDade and James Docherty married to Catherine Kane.
They were from Duntocher, old and new kilpatrick and renfrew. I cannot get further with Catherine McDade on scotland's people- maybe she's irish? I am still looking through the rest as trying to fill in holes - how do i find out if they have brother's and sisters?
I am still looking, also my dad has been adopted so I am trying to find out his biological name- adoption office will not release it to me because I dont know his biological name- in meantime I'm working on his adoptive parents family tree.

I have some Gill in the Kane family I’m researching. It looks possible that your Philip Gill maybe the one that married Bridget Morren? If I remember I found her surname hard to read. I would appreciate any info you have on the Gill family

Hi there,
I have Gill and Duffy, McMurray and McDade in my family tree on my maternal line, mostly connected through 2nd marriages. A bit of a tangled web lets say...
Edward Duffy married to Catherine McDade - don't know dates sorry - they had son -
Edward Duffy born in 1866 in Dalry Ayrshire he was married in 1885 to Annie McMurray born in 1867 in Maryhill died 1899 in Duntocher.
Edward Duffy had 5 children with Annie. Edward then married my GG granny Elizabeth McQuade in 1903 in Alexandria.
Edwards's children were: Maggie b 1886, Thomas b 1889, Patrick b, 1890 William b 1893 and James b 1895
My GG gran had 2 children by 1st husband - Mary Mealyea and Annie Mealyea - My G gran (who I shall come back to)
My William Duffy then married Mary Martin, don't know the dates
My family's connection with the Duffys continues...
My G gran, Annie actually married Patrick Duffy (her step brother), Again it was a 2nd marriage for both. Patrick had 4 kids - Edward, Nancy, Patricia and Thomas.
My G Gran had 2 daughters, Elizabeth Annie Mealyea, my g aunt and Mary Helen Mealyea - my gran.
Elizabeth Annie married a William Gill in 1929, they had 5 kids, but not the names you mention they were: Maria, Wilihmena, George, Edwin and Euphemia.
Apparently Elizabeth Annie left her kids and William Gill ..all quite scandalous.
I don't know if any of the above ties in with your research, but there do seem to be a few common links.
I am trying to tract down the Cuthbertsons for Duntocher / Old Kilpatrick, it is the only part of my tree that I can progress.
Good luck and get in touch if you want more details.

Hi there I have made another forum topic for the Mealyea / Cuthbertson, not wanting to hyjack this thread. Please have a look http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,404824.0.html
I have come across your Mealyea roots on the census, but I don't think they are connected but they could be.
If you can help at all with the Cuthbertsons from Duntocher then please reply on the new thread.
Thanks
