Auchinstarry Row, Cumbernauld
« on: Tuesday 21 July 09 21:22 UTC (UK) »

My great-grandmother's death record has "98 Auchinstarry Row, Croy" as her residence. Can anyone tell me about this address? Does it still exist? was it a row of miners' cottage? Does anyone know if there are photographs available? Thank you.

Can't find Auchenstarry Row but Auchenstarry Road still exists just north of Croy. See googlemaps and postcode G65 9SE.
Hopefully somebody with a local knowledge can help more.

Regards,
Nel

Later.a google search found this - http://www.croyhistorical.org.uk/index.php?q=photo-galleries&g2_itemId=45 Looks a great site.

I also had relations (Docherty) who were born in Auchinstarry Row, Croy and this is a really good site.
Thanks

Hi, Auchinstarry Row was a row of miners cottages. I'm pretty sure there is a photo of them in the book Old Kilsyth published by Stenlake. You can order a copy from Stenlake's web site.

Acyually  thier is only one or 2 houses left, but the land is now farm land, and the small houses are used as farm storage, i have been thier and took a few pics of the area. Not alot left of this small village a few houses and a dockside..across from the quarry. such a shame.
