Hi Peter,

I have now had a bit of time to refresh my memory by looking at my files.  I have that Christopher and Elizabeth’s son John (born abt.1752) married Agnes WHITTINGTON at Thorn, Yorks, in 1780 and that they had 8 children, including Agnes (born 1787), who married James TAYLOR (born 1782 in Ackenthwaite, Westmorland) in 1805. One of their children was John Taylor, (3rd President), born 1808 in Milnthorpe, Westmorland.  A brother of this Agnes Taylor was called John and he MAY be my John, later of Haslingden, Lancashire.

Regarding Christopher, I have that he married Elizabeth SEWARD (or SUART) in 1749, but I have a different birth date and parentage of him. I have him as being born abt. 1694 in Dent, Yorks to Richard Taylor and Isabel, nee HODGSON.  This would make Christopher 55 years old when he married 27 year old Elizabeth in 1749. Apparently he died in 1791 aged 97!!  I also have on file alternative parentage for Christopher – a print out dated 1996 of an IGI pedigree chart for John Taylor 3rd President shows this same Christopher with parents John TAYLOR and Agnes HOGARTH, although I have now checked on the IGI and the pedigrees there for the 3rd President show his (the president’s) gt.gt. grandparents as being Richard TAYLOR and Isabel HODGSON.

How this all fits I’m not sure!!  I have not personally checked any of these earlier details as I’ve yet to prove to myself that this link between my own Taylors and the Mormon President is for real and not just speculation.  It is interesting that John TAYLOR was married twice – I didn’t know that. Also my info. agrees with yours that John Taylor and Agnes Whittington married in 1780 but I have the place they married as Dent, Yorks, rather than Sedberg.

How interesting and coincidental that you have ancestors who lived at Bridge End, Stainton.  I have a lovely photo of my father helping to unveil a commemorative plaque on a wall at Bridge End Farm.

Regards,
Maggie
