I have had a quick look in IGI and there are no baptisms for Coggins in Noke or Charlton. Have you tried a County Records Office or Library? Kooky

Thanks Toby and Kooky very much for the look up and suggestion. However when I go to the site for the parish of St Giles in Noke he is not on the baptismal list but his sister Eliza , who was born earlier, is. I know they moved to Charlton around 1854/55 which is why I think he may be in the baptismal record of St Mary's along with his other siblings, but I need a confirmation. Unfortunately that is difficult for me to do from Canada. I very much doubt that he was not baptised !Best wishes, Lumber-Jack

Hi,
I have a copy of the Charlton on Otmoor Parish Register. Can I be of any help?
I can't see a baptism for George Coggins, however, the family does seem to have gone there as you say:
Anna COGGINS daughter to Richard (labourer) and Anne was baptised on 9 March 1856.
Hope this entry helps and is one of your family. If you want me to have a search through for other relations, just say the word.
Theresa

Hi Theresa, Thanks very much for remembering me! Yes there is much I would like to learn from the Charlton on Otmoor Parish Register! If you would be so kind here is the cast of characters for whom I am looking for births, marriages and deaths/burials:
All Coggins' notably: Richard (1810-1888)....is there a burial/death record? Hannah (1856-1869)....I think she is the Anna you found as a baptism 9 march 1856 George (1854-1914)....this is the only place where he could have been baptised ... he is not listed in Noke registers Martha ( 1859-
James Coggins (1823-1901) marriage 1857 to Charlotte Edwards (1833-1879) John Edwards (1787-1864)...burial Elizabeth Hobbs Edwards (1792-1863)...burial
Any other Coggins' you might discover!
Thanks, Lumber-Jack

OK, here goes . . . (in stages)
These are all the COGGINS baptisms that the register index lists:
1859 Oct 23: COGGINS Elizabeth d James and Charlotte lab Charlton (Rec'd 6 Nov) - this means that she was baptised at home in October and then in the church on November. Obviously a sickly baby that recovered.
1861 Sep 3: COGGINS Goodworth s James and Charlotte lab P.B. (not sure what this last bit means) Charlton
1863 Aug 11: COGGINS Anne d James and Charlotte lab Charlton
1865 Sep 24; COGGANS Gladdie d James and Charlotte lab Charlton
1867 Jul 7: COGGINS Ada d James and Charlotte lab Charlton
1869 Sep 26: COGGINS Owen s James and Charlotte lab Charlton
1872 Sep 3: COGGINS Anna d James and Charlotte lab Charlton
1874 Jun 14: COGGINS William d James and Charlotte lab Charlton

The Edwards burials that you wanted . . .
1863 May 24 EDWARDS Elizabeth 71 Charlton
1864 Mar 11 EDWARDS John 80 Charlton (Note beside that says that this was the first burial in the new cemetery).
There is more Edwards birth/marriages/deaths as they appeared quite numerous in this parish. To save me coping the lot out, are there any particular bits you want me to concentrate on e.g. children of x and y .

Going back to George Coggins, there is definately no baptism there . . . however, you might want to consider the following parishes which were close together and therefore also on my CD:
AMBROSDEN BICESTER CHESTERTON KIRTLINGTON MERTON WENDLEBURY WESTON on the GREEN
Let me know what you want me to check . . . .

Hi Theresa....Thanks very much for a wonderful reply which must have taken you some considerable time. It completed most of my entries.
Other readers may be interested to know that James and Charlotte Coggins emigrated to Canada along with their children so this may provide some valuable linkages for others.
I still have a couple of questions of clarification:
Is John Edwards' burial March 11 1864 or March 1?
Is Richard Coggins ( my gt gt grandfather) buried in St Mary's even though he died in Bicester Workhouse....should I be looking for a marker?
Where is the baptism of Martha Coggins....it should be in Charlton parish in 1859? Hannah was baptised there in 1856!
Where is the baptism of George Coggins around 1854?
For the latter two and taking your list of parishes, it is possible that they were baptised in the parish of father Richard's birth...Weston on the Green...also the deep ancestral home of the Coggins; or at Oddington where mother Anne was baptised.
I am also still seeking additional proof that the maiden name of John Edwards' wife Elizabeth was Hobbs with a marriage of 8 Feb 1813 Wolverton Buckinghamshire, England
I do not need any more Edwards', but thanks again! Lumber-Jack
