An ancestor was married in 1886 at the Brewery Buildings in Bishopbriggs. While the extract is indexed on SP (district of Cadder), the image is not available on the site and I had to order it. I have received the extract and there doesn't appear to be anything irregular about the marriage.
Why would this image not be available on the SP site?
Can anyone tell me the exact address of the Brewery Buildings in Bishopbriggs? I'd be most grateful for any information.

I cant find much but when I search, I come across references to Eagle Brewery, Bishopbriggs - each reference is in the 1880's so perhaps a link?

Thanks for your reply and the newspaper advertisement you posted. It could well be that the tenements (dwellings) on the premises of the Eagle Brewery were referred to as the Brewery Buildings. Do you know if the Eagle Brewery still exists?

I know nothing about it.
The first ad in The Herald suggests Eagle was going out of business in '83.
I was thinking along the same lines as you, the site of the Eagle Brewery becoming Brewery Buildings.
The Ridley birth, although unrelated to your family, I posted to show the date more than anything else.
Hope you find something more.

Is it the actual building(s) you're trying to find out about rather than why your ancestor was married there?
Or was it just a general query on why the image wasn't available on SP?

Not sure if connected there is a pub called the Eagle Lodge, 2 Hilton Road, Bishopbriggs. I googled an article about Eagle Brewery and it was ran by the Ayton Brothers.

Thanks for your reply. My initial query is why that particular image is not available on SP because, in studying the extract, I could find no irregularity. I thought it may have something to do with the venue of the marriage -- the Brewery Buildings -- or their location.
Also, I couldn't find the exact address of the Brewery Buildings on the net in order to do a search of the 1881 census for the bride's parents, who lived there for some time.

I looked for 'Brewery Building(s)' and 'Eagle Brewery' on the 1881 Cencus CD's and got zero results. (I tried every variation I could think of). Obviously this doesn't mean either of them didn't exist, possibly the 'Brewery Building(s) had a completely different name and was this was what it was known locally as. As for the Brewery itself, I would imagine it's not mentioned simply because there was no-one there at the Cencus times.
Why not just post the details of the people concerned and we can then see what we can find out about them.

P.S. The Eagle Lodge is a relatively new building but it may have been given the name as it's on the land where the original brewery was??

Thanks very much for doing that search for me. I, likewise, tried every variation on the 1881 census and, ditto, came up with nothing, which I found curious. That's why I posted my query about the exact address of the Brewery Buildings.
I know pertinently that Mary Kerr (maiden surname McVicar) was still living there in 1894 because she was the informant of her sister Catherine McVicar's death (the bride in the marriage that took place in the Brewery Buildings in 1886) and that is the address cited on the death certificate. However, I can't find a Mary Kerr in the 1891 or 1901 census in Bishopbriggs. In fact, I have been unable to trace any of Catherine McVicar's family (her father being Donald McVicar, seaman, and her mother Anne McIntyre). They elude me. It's a mystery.

By the way, Anne, I meant to mention in my previous post that I took Tom's advice and queried SP as to why that particular extract of the marriage of William Paterson and Catherine McVicar is not available for viewing online. I await a reply.
