Hi Avril,
I think I'm the guilty one of using one 's' , but doesn't it show how good this site is for 'getting the job done'. Now where else would you find a site like this, Jim43?
Bill.

Many thanks Avril. I have a one volume history of Peebleshire that I downloaded. Once I get into that and need questions answered. And I do keep missing an s from Pebblesshire: Google corrects me every time.

Dave, Bill, Avril:

Following up Bill's link to the Genuki map I noticed that it was from the Imperial Gazeteer of Scotland (1850). I found a digitised copy of the gazeteer on the web at http://www.archive.org/details/imperialgazettee02wilsuoft. Since it is digitised you can run a search. There are many references to Newhall including an interesting main article. This would seem a very useful tool for anyone researching anything in Scotland before 1850. I downloaded the pdf so that I can have it readily available. It does take a while to run a search on over 900 pages of small print.

And thank you Avril. I notice my previous post is full of typos. P's only got one b.
