Help with Place Name
« on: Sunday 05 October 08 11:16 UTC (UK) »

Hi Rootschatters,
Can anyone help me please with this Inverness placename, it's taken from a census in Glasgow in 1891, and it refers to the birthplace of an Alexander Macdonald. Perhaps the surname may help to narrow it down.

Looks to me like Torranerrick at Kiltarlity, you will be able to find it on the Ordnance Survey Map slightly to the South-East of Kiltarlity.

Brilliant ! Lynn, you're a star. Thank you. I've trawled g**glemaps for almost an hour now, and couldn't find anything close to that hand writting.

You're very welcome Bill, I knew as soon as I looked at it that it was probably a name from Kiltarlity, definitely helps being from the area.

It allowed me to narrow down and confirm my search. His parents were from Loaneckheim, very close by, according to his baptism entry. Thank you again.
