University of Leicester - Palaeography
A very very interesting site - hover your mouse over the images of letters, and a little window will pop up with explanations:

Christopher,

The National Archives palaeography site was first mentioned (I think) back in Jan 2005 and you posted on that particular thread earlier this year  Wink
See:

Check out the:
RootsChat Lexicon of Genealogical Terms and Abbreviations
and the link to:
http://surname.rootschat.com/lexicon/index.php

In the LEXICON, you will find links to several relevant RootsChat topics indexed under Handwriting, Old English Wills, Old Handwriting, Scottish Handwriting, Secretary Hand ...
The most recent addition there is dated 21 Sep 2008.

Hi JAP,

Where do I find links to Irish writing other than the Book of Kells Huh

Have a look at the images in the Book of Kells. This was transcribed by Celtic monks
ca. 800 You might require a Latin dictionary but the writing is easy to read.
