Last heard of in Brisbane
« on: Monday 13 October 08 14:21 UTC (UK) »

Please can anyone help find infomation on Thomas Percy and Hettie LAWSON last heard of living at 21 Capricorn St INALA BRISBANE.  They were visited at that address in the 1960s by an aunt of mine.

Believed they travelled out to Australia in  1926.

Hello  there Mike,

I  would assume  that  these  two  folks  could be dead?

Now a little bit more information  will  help.

Where and when  were  they  born.  Did  they  marry  in Australia?

all helps  to  find  them

I see Thomas Percival record on findmypast. but no Hettie only a Harriet -

I don't have a subscription but you can search for free but pay to view the records.

Marriage  Jun qtr  1923  York 9d/85
Yorkshire - East Riding, Yorkshire - North Riding, North Yorkshire, Yorkshire - West Riding

COATES
Hettie
LAWSON Thomas P

Births 1925
LAWSON Jean  Mother's maiden name COATES    Coventry 6d/1146

and Jean is listed on the passenger list in 1926.

I cannot find any birth for a Hettie COATES only Harriet...you can search

I think Hettie is a pet form of Harriet.

Jenn followed up on your find and on the 1930 roll there are two enrolments in the same district - perhaps moved house  - both have occupations labourer...and are the only eligibe voters with the name at the addresses, however the 1936 roll does have two LAWSONs at one address

Australia Electoral Rolls 1936
LAWSON Annie Alice  327c Edgecliff Road, Woolahra  Home duties
LAWSON Thomas Percival  327c Edgecliff Road, Woolahra   Butler.

I did check the Divorce Index to 1930 - nil.  However found the following but can find no marriage for the above couple on the NSW bdm's.

Marriage
15227  1930
PATON      Robert G
LAWSON  Hettie
District Balmain North

1936 Electoral Roll
PATON Harriett  66 Flood Street, Leichhardt  Home duties
PATON Robert Gray  66 Flood Street, Leichhardt, Labourer.

Nothing to prove that these are the correct people.

Bingo...all above is probably correct

PATON   Harriet Coates (Hetty)
Death notice   24JUL1970
Death       late of Leichhardt
Sydney Morning Herald   27JUL1970

So the couple your aunt visited in Brisbane would have been Thomas Percival with his 2nd wife.

The  NSW online BDM

shows  the following marriage

15227/1930  groom PATON  ROBERT G  bride COATES  HETTIE  at BALMAIN NORTH
15227/1930            PATON  ROBERT G  bride LAWSON  HETTIE  at BALMAIN NORTH

odd  though  no  divorce  showing  on line  up to 1930!! edit  there are only  up   to 1923.

Many Thanks Jenn and Cando for your efforts.

I am just doing a little homework having found a note book written by my aunt in 1976. I will post again when I have digested the  info contained within.

Aunt did meet up with Thomas and his wife Alice, no children mentioned at all so perhaps they didnt have any.

Evidently there was mention of their reunion in one of the local papers around Apr 28 1976. Is there any access to the local papers on line that you may know of, now just on the track of their deaths
