Hi karenlee
Thanks very much for the census entry I somehow don't think this is the Jane I'm looking for as she is pretty consistent with her census ages l- born abt 1840 in Wigan - this one is too old but at least I can rule her out
But many thanks SC

Hi
I am still looking for Thomas Holland and his wife Jane - they are not the ones quoted above, that couple have now definitely been ruled out
My Thomas married in 1860 so prob no children by the census, in fact I'm not sure there were any from the marriage at all Thomas died in Wigan Dist in 1862 age 23 His wife Jane was definitely born in 1842 in Wigan, I have her cert, and she remarried in 1865
It is poss that they could be in Bolton but I suspect either way the spelling has to be mistranscribed as they were not found before
Any info would be most helpful Thanks SC

Hi Sandra
Thank you very much for finding Thomas That is indeed much more likely and I just looked on FreeBMD - there is a birth Mar Qtr 1861 for Alice and 2 possibles for her death Jun or Sep Qtr 1861
I wonder if Thomas died in some sort of colliery accident now that you have found his occupation - he was very young
Many thanks SC

Hi Sandra
Sorry to go back abit. This is about the Walthew connection. I think the "Abel Walthew" referred to in one of your earlier posts may be "Absalom Walthew" born about 1837, married 1857.
There was also a william Walthew who married Eliza L (Elizabeth) Jones about 1833 in Anglesey. William was born in Holyhead but there is no other record for him from the time period. there doesn't seem to be any children. Eliza died in 1877 and in the land registration of the 1870's is lised as owning 22 acres in holyhead. This probably came to her from her father . It may be worth seeing if there is a link to the other jones's marrying into the walthews about this time.
As regards there are Hollands married into and from the Walthews from the 1600'sin and around Wigan, Standish, Upholland and Ince. There is a marriage in the earlier 1800's and the name is carried down as "Elizabeth holland walthew" If you have anything on Abel and/or absalom I would be grateful
Edward W
