St James, Burton-in-Kendal - Baldwin 1840s COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 07 October 08 09:18 UTC (UK) »

Hi, first time I've been on this board, so my apologies if I haven't posted correctly.

I'm trying to find evidence of a marriage between Henry Baldwin and his first wife, who I believe may have been Mary Nuttal in 1840, in parish registers as I cannot get to the region to research for the foreseeable future and my research on this side has hit a brickwall. The census if they are the right person, records him being married in 1841 to a Mary Baldwin in Holme and then in 1851 to a Margaret Baldwin (nee Moorhouse).

I'm interested to know what the Burton-in-Kendal parish record may say if they were married here for who their parents were and how old they may have been if recorded. I'm also under the impression Mary may have died 6 or 7 years later - c. 1846-7 but have little evidence to support this, other than Henry remarried in 1850. I think they may also have had one child Jane c.1840.

Henry's mother Mary Baldwin also died I believe in 1851 in the parish, although this is also just an assumption. The amount of Marys in the family makes it very confusing. I have the transcriptions for this parish for 1653-1837, that I recently sent off for but the Baldwins and Nuttals don't seem to be in the parish before 1800. Henry's mother and father married there in 1804.

I'm happy to assist anyone with lookups from this book if they need the help.

Kind Regards

Iain Powell

In 1841 they have a child Jane with them.  If you obtained the birth certificate for Jane, then you would know if the marriage in 1840 (Henry & possibly Mary Nuttall) was the correct one, then from their marriage certificate you would be on your way - avoids random parish searching.

Thanks for the reply Michael

Yes I think this is the avenue I may have to go down - I have them on my order list, but thought I'd post just in case someone had ever come across it before I did.

Cheers

I am not sure where you live but LDS centres are worldwide and listed on familysearch.   You can order the film of any parish register and search it there at your leisure - no need to go "up north"   They are not restricted to the parishes on the IGI.
