If Gadget can't help, or another opinion needed, post the appropriate areas on here and we can all try and help. Dave

Hi
Here's the bit that Frank is having problems with - the first name of Mrs Miller m.s. Custer. I think it looks like Jane after a couple of looks but it's strange handwriting -

I'd agree with Jane. It's quite an elongated style of writing. Dave

There is an Isabella Jane Custer b1903 in Olrig, Caithness on SP - would that tie in with other info on document?
Also Jane Custer b1803 in Olrig.

She married a William Miller, if you'd like to check the marriage. Son b. circa 1830 so would be before then.

I never take the birth of a child as being definite proof that the marriage was before it. Say nothing, but I've got a few bastards in my family.
I've searched SP and can't find an appropriate marriage between a Custer and a Mill*r.
Nothing on IGI for that marriage either.
Modified - think I may have found it. Recorded as Lean Custer
31/10/1828 CUSTER LEAN m WILLIAM MILLER Olrig /CAITHNESS GROS FR338 039/ 0020 0093

It's usually a good indicator, Dave. In my very limited experience, that is
Quite possibly missing/non C of S or common law then.
